    Smile Amid an oil boom

    Hi, I have a question to ask.

    Amid an oil boom, the Middle East has become a source of capital at a time when liquidity in many other places has evaporated.

    What do the overstriking words mean? Do them mean that the Middle East exploit and produce more oil than ever before or the oil price is skyrocketing? Thank you.

    In this case, amid means "during" or "in the middle of" these times of the oil crises

    Thank you very much. But does 'boom' mean a sudden increase or a time of prosperity of economy? Why oil crises?

    "Amid" = During.
    "The oil price is skyrocketing."
