Thank you for the context, but where/what are your opinions/comments about what the authors have said? I'm not sure what it is exactly that you are having difficulty with. Which part of what the authors have said do you find unenlightening/problematic?

    Dear soup

    Ref : post #1

The correct choice is went. What I have understood from the sites that I visited is there is a slight difference in meaning between "It's time we went home" and "we should go home".

"It's time we went home" suggests that "we should have already gone home" or "we are going home" or "we go home".

We should go home suggests it's time for us to go home now.

(It is beyond me that he is allowed to troll in the way that he does.) You could always do what most of us do, put him on your ignore list so you don't have to deal with his behavior.

Soup has me on her ignore list because she doesn't want to have to face up to and deal with the mistakes she makes in analyzing language. This is not something that a teacher should do. We can all make mistakes but running away from them serves no purpose that I can see.

It is truly ironic that Soup can suggest to ESLs that they argue their case while she studiously avoids doing so herself.

That is not the correct choice, Venkatasu. That is one choice.

"It's time we went home" suggests that 1) "we should have already gone home" or 2) "we are going home" or 3) "we go home".

In a native speaker's mind, it could suggest 1) or 2) but not 3). It depends on the situation, on what the speaker is thinking about.

We should go home suggests it's time for us to go home now.

    All three,

"It's time we go/went/should go home" can hold a number of different nuances/can show a number of different speaker feelings.

These can be a first thought on going home, a strong insistence, some general advice and likely some others.

I'm not sure that Soup does it, however I am quite certain that you do it. How about my post on this thread addressed to you?

Why are you all deviating from the original context

    Hello, riverkid(kappa)!
    Well...we are...in some kind of...awkward atmosphere, aren't we?

I think it is OK to state our opinions. What we should bear in mind, however, is that we are, on some occasions, required to provide evidence to support our own ideas, which, I suppose, is the case with this forum.(I'm not saying you haven't provided any evidence. Please don't get me wrong.) A huge number of non-native speakers take part in it, so wrong information must not be given. If it is, it must be corrected.

There's a whole lot of information provided (by both native and non-native speakers) here in this forum every day. And also, there have been many interesting discussions on the English language here. I really enjoy them.
Eventually, it's really up to us which piece of information we choose.

    What am I talking about...?
    Anyway...
I really welcome exciting(heated) discussions, but I wouldn't like false accusation or defamation.
I really admire you both, Soup and riverkid. I respect you from the bottom of my heart. I really mean it.
    So...please stop hurting each other.

Thank you tzfujimino your post is well balanced, upto the point and it will have a sobering effect. I hope this will calm down the frayed tempers. Your observation regarding the non-native speakers contribution to this forum is like a fresh whiff of air. I still remember you tzfujimino the time when you supported me when others let down. I will be ever thankful to you for that kind noble gesture. I hope we will see other quite often.
