    went forward

    Which are correct:

    1-I went forward too much.
    2-I went too far forward.

    3-I went forward a lot.
4-I went a long way forward.
5-I went forward to a great extent.
    6-I went very far forward.

I think 3 means 'I went forward often' but 4 and 5 seem a bit formal to me.

All of them are fine, Navi, but they wouldn't all necessarily be used for the same situations.

    Re: went forward

    Thanks a lot Riverkid.

Could you explain the differences in their meanings?
Which ones have a temporal meaning (ie. 'often', 'too often) and which ones have a spatial meaning (too far in space)?

All sentences seem to be correct to me. Since I am not a professional teacher please await comments from our learned experts. Comments have already come from riverkid before I post my reply. Thank you riverkidfor your coments.

    Re: went forward

1-I went forward too much. I went forward too often/too many times.
2-I went too far forward. I went forward too long a distance.

3-I went forward a lot. I went forward often/many times.
4-I went a long way forward. I went forward a long distance.
5-I went forward to a great extent. I find this one a bit strange, it means more or less the same as 4. and 6.
6-I went very far forward. I went forward a very long distance.
