    across(?) linguists?

    Hi all,

    The meaning I want to express: All linguists hold the view that ...

    My question: Is the preposition (across) acceptable in the following:

    Across linguists it is generally accepted that ... ?

    Linguist is a person who speaks several languages. So, "linguists" is a reference to a set of people. Therefore, it should be:

    All linguists hold the view that.....

    You may also say:

    Among linguists, it is generally held that.....
