    ellipsis

    Can one say:
1-Those destroyed palaces were the ruins we had heard about, like ghosts.
    instead of:
2-Those destroyed palaces were the ruins we had heard about, which were like ghosts.

    Can one say:
3-Those destroyed palaces were the ruins we had heard about, like ghosts from the past.
    instead of:
4-Those destroyed palaces were the ruins we had heard about, which were like ghosts from the past.

    Can one say:
5-Those destroyed palaces were the ruins we had heard about, like ghosts in a void awating their resurrection.
    instead of:
6-Those destroyed palaces were the ruins we had heard about, which were like ghosts in a void awating their resurrection.

    Re: ellipsis

It would perhaps be clearer if you structure the sentence like this:

Those destroyed palaces were the ghostlike ruins we had heard about.

    Re: ellipsis

Those destroyed palaces, which looked like ghosts, were the ruins we had heard about.
