I know people is plural, but when you are using people as possessing something is it people’s or peoples’?

    Re: Peoples

    Jirikoo, fabulous point!
For a few words, like "people," whether or not to follow the apostrophe with an "s" depends on the context of the sentence:

The emperor seemed deaf to the peoples' criticisms.
(There are many people with many different criticisms.)

He was hired to divine the people's mood and predict their acceptance of untried products.
(This refers to the collective mood of the people.)
