    Plural??

    Patients need to protect their heart.
    or
    Patients need to protect their hearts.

    I received a high score in math and science.
    or
    I received high scores in math and science.

    I would use "heart" for the first one, because each person has only one heart, and I would use "scores" for the second one because you get one score in math and the other in science.
