    Adverbials and the past perfect

    Hey,

my grammar book says that among others, we can use the adverbials 'yesterday', 'at midnight' and 'in 1994' also in past perfect sentences. Actually, I cant imagine similar sentences might work, I would probably use the past simple in such.

Can we thus say something like:

A/ I hadnt finished the report at midnight. /personally, I would say by midnight/

In fact, I cant even think of any examples for yesterday and in 1994.

Would you provide me with some, please, maybe giving some explanation?

    Thanks for your efforts.

A/ I hadnt finished the report at midnight. I wouldn't say/write that. I also would say "by midnight". But you can say, '(At)(By) midnight I still hadn't finished the report.

You can say, 'I didn't finish the report at midnight.' This sentence means that you may have finished it at some other time, or maybe you never finished it. But if you did finish it, it wasn't at midnight.

In fact, I cant e ven think of any examples for yesterday and in 1994.
Before (midnight)(1994) I (hadn't considered)(didn't consider) doing anything like that.
