    Default Prepositions Qs e.g. Succeeded in/succeeded at

    Hi everyone, in Questions 1-5, which one do you think is correct and why?

    1)
    He succeeded in climbing the mountain.
    He succeeded at climbing the mountain.

    2)
    The mountain was covered in ice.
    The mountain was covered with ice.
    The mountain was covered by ice.

    3)
    He was angry at the umpire.
    He was angry with the umpire.

    4)
    Please try and finish it by next week.
    Please try to finish it by next week.

    5)
    Don't compare yourself to him.
    Don't compare yourself with him.

    one more thing to mention,
    In spoken English try can be used with and plus another verb, instead of with to and the infinitive: I’ll try and get you a new one tomorrow. • Try and finish quickly. In this structure, try can only be used in the infinitive, or to tell somebody what to do.
