    have found/are finding

“We are finding that breastfeeding rates aren’t just explained by the individuals who live in these areas, there’s something about the areas themselves and breastfeeding,” said BYU co-author John Hoffmann.

The sentence above comes from a piece of news. I'd like to know if we can change 'are finding' into 'have found' without changing the meaning of the sentence. Or does 'are finding' mean 'find again and again'?

Could I ask native English speakers to help me please? Thank you in advance.

"are finding" means they are still working on it. They haven't come to a definite conclusion yet. He could said "have found", which would be true and correct, but he left it open to future change.
