    serious skills

    Hi,

What does "serious skills" mean in this context? It means advanced skills? But I can not find the definition like, advanced for "serious" in the dictionary. I hope somebody could take a look for me.

    Thanks for your help.

N: Look at Lincoln's angle. Walks away from the car. Now, this guy, who conveniently hides his face from the camera, he comes back in. Why?
V: To explain the pants they'd already planted in his apartment. Nick, this is great.
    N: Yeah.
V: Who, who should we go to?
N: Nobody. Yet. I mean, to the unbiased eye, we're just backing a horse that died in the gate. A lot of "what ifs" and conjecture, you know. We don't have anything. We need some evidence. Look, if... if Lincoln didn't fire this gun, then somebody with some serious skills went to work on this tape to prove that he did.
V: Fine, but how do we prove that?

    Yes it means advanced/impressive skills.

Did you see the guitarist - he had some serious skills!

I suppose it is a colloquialism.

    I'm not a teacher.

    Re: serious skills

In AmE particularly, "serious" has become a new way to describe someone's mastery of a task or talent as the extreme or the ultimate.

"I'm not bitter that Bob got the promotion instead of he; he deserved it - he has serious organizational skills."

"Have you ever seen Tony Hawk on a skateboard? The dude has some serious skills!"
