"That you should say so suprises me."

Re: How do you analyze a complex sentence?

    Could it be elliptical?

Ex: (The fact) that you should say so ... .

This is to say you don't understand what a complex sentence is.
First of all, try to understand a complex sentence and then analyze complex sentences.
Some complex sentences are difficult to analyze.
    With kindest wishes!

Ex: (The fact) that you should say so ... .You can't add the fact because that is a noun clause. If you add "the fact" before "that you should say so", it becomes adjective clause.
Suppose you may do. If you add "the fact" before "that you should say so", what do you add before the following sentence?
    What he said was true.
This is a complex sentence also.
What do you add before "what he said"?
    With kindest wishes!

    Right! Exactly, a noun clause.

What do you mean by "analyze"? Do you want each word and phrase labelled with a part of speech?
