    ..in the movie 'Before Sunset'

    "memory is a wonderful thing if you don't have to deal with the past"

    What is the exact meaning of this sentence?

    'deal with' means 'solve the problem?'

    I like this movie so I'm reading the screenplay..

    Without context, I would interpret it as meaning that remembering things can be a pleasure, unless your past was unpleasant and contained events that still affect you.

    In this context, "deal with" = continue to cope with something.
