    I think there is a missing word and it should be "at that hour".

    Or if it was someone quoting from The Tempest, and Miranda said (in verse)

    Wherefore did they not that hour destroy us?
    perhaps Shakespeare omitted the "at" to preserve the metre.

    Thank you for your answer.

    Sorry, I didn't myself clear previously. Yes, it is related to Shakespeare' work- The Tempest, to be more exact, it is The Tempest from Tales from Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb.

    That hour refers to that hour of night.
