I'm having a problem pronouncing 'comfortable' correctly. Everytime I do, my American friend tells me I'm wrong. Can anyone here divide it into syllables that are easy to catch?
Maybe that's the way in some parts of the world. But in Br E it's often reduced to three syllables: /'kʌmftəbəl/. The second syllable is a schwa. I've followed the standard EFL transcription of a schwa in the last syllable too, although I think the [l] is syllabic (as does Shmi).
Thank you Shmi.
Thank you Bob.
