    in a delicate balance

What is the meaning of the phrase "to survive in a delicate balance" and how can I paraphrase it?

    Here is a context!

"The wildlife, the native peoples and now the newcomers all depend on this landscape: Alaska survives in a delicate balance. The moods of the weather, the extremes of its climate dictate how life is lived. It’s a reminder that we are not above nature, but that nature is above us."

    Thank you!

Alaska's survival is a delicate balance between things which could change things for the worst, like the effects of global warming and things which tend to counter-balance these effects like, maybe, increased industrialisation which produces pollution which could block sunlight and cause cooling.
If either of these effects outstrips (or out-balances) the other, Alaskans could find their way of life altered, probably making it worse.

    Re: in a delicate balance

    Thank you for your help.

Still, I'm not sure I'd know how to paraphrase it.

Why not have a go? We'll correct it.
You know what paraphrasing is. You know what the phrase means. Your turn.

The various elements of the Alaskan ecosystem exist in a precarious equilibrium.
    The Alaskan environment is fragile.
In Alaska, there is a potentially unstable relationship between the natural environment and the organisms that live in it.
