The fastest these animals can run is about 65kph and _____ their hunting methods have to be very efficient indeed.
A .at any rate B. at this rate
C. in the end D. in consequence
The given answer is D. I'd like to know if we can also use B. That is, can we treat 'at this rate' as its denotation of 'at this speed' rather than its connotation of 'if this situation continues'?
Thank you in advance.
B. would mean "... and at 65kph, their hunting methods have to be very efficient indeed."
But that is only their top speed. They have to be very efficient at any speed because their top speed is (comparatively) low.
