I thought it rude vs I thought it was rude

    Hi everyone,

Is anybody able to explain to me the grammatical differences between the following 2 sentences?

    1) I thought it rude to say such a thing
    2) I thought it was rude to say such a thing

    Thank you.

Also are these 2 grammtically correct? If so what is the difference?

    3) We elected him president
    4) We elected him as president

About (1) the adjective 'rude' though grammatically not complimenting the pronoun 'it', I think the same is used informally.

With refence to your second question:
    3) We elected him president. This is applicable where the position is one/specific. For example you can not say: The people of America elected Gerge Bush (as) president.
    4) We elected him as president This is applicable where there are more than one positions such as directors. You can say: We elected him as one of the directors.
