    Default pronunciation

    Why the first letter 'a' in a word 'data' is pronunced as in 'lake' and the second 'a' pronunced as in 'ask'.

    plz help. answer with the reasons

    English data (pronounced d[ei]-ta or d[ae]-ta, among other pronunications) comes from Latin d[ae]-ta.
