    Default have,have got and got.

    HI

I have difficulty understanding the usage of " have to","have got to","have","have got" and "got".

For example,is it correct to say?

    He has many friends.
    He has got many friends.
    He got many friends.

I have to do it as soon as possible.
I have got to do it as soon as possible.
I got do do it as soon as possible.

    THANKS.

Use either have got or have; Use either has got or has; Never use 'got' by itself when you want to express must, ought to or own.

    He has many friends. (OK)
He has got many friends. (OK; See note below)
He got many friends. (Not OK. Use 'has')

I have to do it as soon as possible. (OK)
I have got to do it as soon as possible. (OK)
I got to do it as soon as possible. (Not OK. Use 'have')

Note, have got, have got to and has got mean must, ought or own. Although some authorities are beginning to accept the 'have/has got' usage, the majority still consider the usage unacceptable in formal writing.

What about the past simple? I know that we say " i have got two years left to finish my highchool " , but when this sentence is in the past simple is it correct to say .... He said he had got two years....I think it`s not correct but i`m not sure if i`m right.

    Thanks!!!!
