    What is needed is/are ...

What is needed is a pair of scissors.
    What is needed are scissors.
What is needed is a pen.
    What is needed are pens.

    Are all the sentences correct?

    Many thanks.

(Hi to fellow members who responded to my earlier post. I'm sorry I've re-posted the query as I found a question mark in the first two sentences. They were not needed.

    Once again, my apologies.)
