    the usage

Let's say I am in somebody's house and I want to know where they keep their books. Do I say:

    1-Where are books?
    or:
    2-Where are the books?

Let's say I am in somebody's kitchen and I am lookijng for vinegar. Do I say:

    3-Where is vinegar?
    or:
    4-Where is the vinegar?
