Default Non Native Asian English teacher in Istanbul?

Hi Im a Singaporean hoping to take up the TEFL course in Istanbul. I plan to teach there upon completion of the course.

I read so many job ads there requiring a native English speaker and a degree holder. Truth be told, I am neither. English, though, is the main business language in Singapore and I speak English most of the time here. I have a 3 years diploma in Visual Communications and given Singapore's high educational standards, I am aware it is equivalent to 1-2 years degree in Australia.

I am worried these 2 factors might dampen my chance of securing a teaching job, especially in Istanbul. Any advise or opinions?

Secondly, I am contemplating on studying in Via Lingua Istanbul. Any reviews on this school? Which is the best school for a TEFL course, in Istanbul (asian side)? I will be residing with my Turkish friends there so its important I get a school around that area.

    Please help???

They talk about their external moderation, but I couldn't see anything about recognition or accreditation.

I'm afraid I have no real knowledge of schools there; I'm living just round the corner from you in Cambodia. I put this link in another post; it's a forum that is run by a teacher in Turkey where you'll be able to get some accurate information.

You might want to check also this site
English Teachers Forum | Ingilizce Ogretmenler Forum | Free Worksheets | Free Handouts | Ingilizce Ogretmen Forum | - Powered by vBulletin

It is for teachers of English in Turkey and they have a SubForum entitled “Teach Esl in Turkey” with several posts. It might be useful

    Good luck!

I used to be a Via Lingua trainer, and it was okay when I was teaching it! You might find you can do the CELTA for the same price, though, which would be much more useful for getting a job. Even with that, though, you might have problems getting both a good job in Turkey as there is a certain amount of expecting English teachers to be blond and blue eyed. A sign of a good teacher training organisation is one that will be honest with you about such problems you might meet. They will know much more than me about the present situation (I taught there 13 years ago), but might have a reason to get you on the course and only tell you about job prospects later

Don't do it. Multi LIngua is a joke-they are the inventor of that joke the TEFL bus. All aboard for Istanbul yee haaw. Getting a job with no degree and a joke of a piece of paper will be difficult and won't make up for the grand and a month of your time.
