    Question Re: plaster of Paris

    plaster of Paris noun [u]
a mixture of a white powder and water which becomes hard quickly as it dries and is used especially to make plaster casts
Hi! Could you please tell me why this stuff is called "plaster of Paris" but not "plaster of London/NYC, etc." if you know? Did it originate from Paris, France?

    Thanks!

    Re: plaster of Paris

The white gypsum that we now called "plaster of Paris" was originally discovered and refined for use in Montmartre in Paris.
