    Default deteriorating financial outlook

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to help me to make sense of the following expression “deteriorating financial outlook”. I have seen the expression in question in the NYT’s article “New faces and focuses in Washington, but problems remain the same”

“He (the president-elect Barack Obama) scheduled his first post-election visit to the White House and convened an economic advisory board to meet here amid signs of a deteriorating financial outlook.”

There are a few meanings for “outlook” but I chose by translation in my native language one of them, namely “expectation for the future” (prospect) in the firm believe that it fits the case.

outlook = angle, aspect, attitude, frame of mind, look-out, panorama, perspective, point of view, scene, slant, standpoint, vantage-point, view, viewpoint, expectation, forecast, future, prognoses, prospect.

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V

    Dear V:

You chose the correct translation for 'outlook' (expectations for the future; prospect)

    Dear vil,
the financial world always works on future basis, i.e., it takes into account what the future would be for a particular economic entity or business. Here Obama is supposed to review the future prospects and the expectations of USA for the coming years and find corrective measures. Thus economic future seems appropriate.
