    Re: Gab session - What?

It's when two or more people get together and talk about a variety of topics (quite often they gossip).

Maybe this is an American expression. I've heard of 'the gift of the gab' - being good at talking. So I'd've guessed right if I'd ever met 'gab session'. But I haven't'

    Re: Gab session - What?

It may well be strictly an AmE expression. I grew up hearing it used by everyone from school teachers (reprimanding students talking among themselves while she was trying to lecture: "I hate to interrupt your gab session, but there will be a test on this material tomorrow so you should pay attention!"), to my Dad, referring to Mom and other neighborhood women gathered together on someone's porch, chatting away ("I hope their gab session ends soon; I'm getting hungry and it's past dinner time!"), to my friends ("We were supposed to meet to make plans for the next parent/teacher conference, but it turned into a good old fashioned gab session...Did you know that Mrs. Jones is supposedly having an affair with the football coach?"

Come to think of it, maybe only gossipy women participate in gab sessions....!
