    Default from a grammar school went on to Cambridge

    He was educated at a local grammar school, ______ he went on to Cambridge.
    A. from which B. after that C. after which D. From this

    The question above is taken from one of China's province's 2005 college entrance examination paper. The given answer is C. I'd like to know if we can also use A (from which) for the answer.

    Could I ask native speakers to help me please? Thank you in advance.

    It doesn't really work for me; it doesn't carry the idea of completion and carries the idea of location more than education. I wouldn't say it is completely wrong, but would not be very happy with it.
