    can I say

    In the afternoon I go to the pool where I swim for an hour

    ?

    Should I say swimming pool?

    Swimming pool would be quite better mind you that pool alone means a swimming pool too.

    Ripley, in your sentence it is entirely clear that you mean "swimming pool" so the simply "pool" is just fine. In fact, it's better because it avoids repetition in the sentence.
