    What is the main difference between :

    Apply to and Apply for ?

    apply (with for) to ask for (something) formally. You could apply (to the manager) for a job.
    apply (with to) to concern. This rule does not apply to him.

    Dear Mauricio:

    She applied to the University of California.
    He applied to the dean for a waiver.

    She applied for admission to the University of California.
    He applied for a scholarship.

    Applied to: Where or to whom one applied
    Applied for: What one hoped to receive
