    Question Quit the charade?

If someone told you to "quit the charade", what does s/he mean? More information about the word of "charade" will be highly appreciated.

Charades is a parlor game. (The word charade is French, and you can look up its origin if you like.)
In this game, a chosen player or team tries to act out silently (mime) a familiar word or phrase. The other players try to guess the word or phrase from the clues given in the acting out.
From this 'acting out' aspect of the game, the word charade has come to mean a hollow pretense. For example, "Ann went through the charade of cordiality towards her rival, when everyone knew she couldn't stand the sight of her."
