    CAE Test

Fill in the gaps with the word that fit best:

" Something similar can always happen, for..... when you want to go abroad".

Can anyone explain why the key says INSTANCE is the only option, when EXAMPLE is a perfect synonym? Not only that, but the sentence is grammatically and semantically accurate with BOTH words....

Note that the first clause states that 'something can happen'. Then note that the second clause does not give an example of 'what could happen', but an instance of a situation in which 'this something' could happen.
