    checked my emails

I am reading my emails right now and I am writing a reply.

I want to apologize first for writing late. How can I write that?

I'm sorry for the late reply
    I'm sorry to reply late.
What are some better ways to write it?

Then, I want to explain that I busy and I check no my emails.

Do I use the past tense or the past prefect or the present prefect?

I was busy and I haven't checked my emails
I was busy and I didn't checked my emails
I was busy and I hadn't checked my emails

("haven't" meaning from the past until now but I'm reading my emails now which I have to use the past? But "didn't" means only one period in the past. )

By the way, should email be plural or singular? Do English speakers usually say check my emails(meaning email messages) or check my email( meaning email account?)

    My try:

Thank you so much for your e-mail. I am really sorry for replying so late because I was very busy these days and I could not check my emails.

    check my emails
    check my email
    All are acceptable and understandable.

    Not a teacher.

    Try:
Sorry for the late reply. I've been very busy and haven't been checking my email.

I think it should be in the past tense?
I'd been very busy and hadn't been checking my email.

Because he was busy but not anymore. He is replying and checking his email which means he's no longer busy and his action of checking was done.

Can someone correct me if I am wrong?

It seems like you are talking about the past. Would you really put that in an email?

(The person might still be busy. Also "haven't been checking my email" means he hasn't been looking at his email account recently (but now he is, of course).)
