    invent ourselves out of problems

    Hi,
"We, the human beings of the modern world, have always been able to invent ourselves out of problems."
Could you please tell me the meaning of the phrase in bold?
Does it mean that we always have a way to solve any problems?
    Thank you.

Re: invent ourselves out of problems

    Dear mylevt:

I think your phrase follows this pattern:

We invent our way out of problems. (We use our powers of invention, ingenuity, and resourcefulness to work our way through new problems as they arise.)

She could talk her way out of any difficulty. (She was very good with words and could convince others of her innocence, or talk them into helping her.)

He couldn't think his way out of a paper bag. (Highly idiomatic: He wasn't a good thinker.)

    I hope this is helpful,

    Petra
