    Cool Stands or lies?

    Hello amigos!

On the site Jesus was buried, stands/lies a magnificent cathedral now.

Which one fits better in this sentence?

    Thanks,

    Sam

    Re: Stands or lies?

Think of "lies" as something that is more horizontal than vertical.

Buildngs that are still standing would use "stands" but the ruins of a former building would "lie."
