    Subject-Verb Agreement (SVA)

What is the SVA rule for fractions? For instance, what would be the right verb for the following phrases?

    a. one-fourth of the pizza (is/are)
    b. two-thirds of the students (is/are)

    Thanks for the help.

    Re: Subject-Verb Agreement (SVA)

It depends on whether you're using a plural form of the object noun.

A quarter of the pizza is mine.
Two thirds of the students are yours.
