    Default Pigeons by Richard Kell

    i need to some of the language features Richard Kell used in his poem, specifically in lines 11-13, also i just want to know what is the purpose of the dash in line 19?

    please help!

    I'll confine myself to the dash. Its original use in English, in the old "periodic" style of the eighteenth century, was to mark subdivisions within a single paragraph. For paragraphs back then tended to be long.

    Today, it is used either as a kind of colon, to introduce examples of something just mentioned; or, in a more careful usage I have heard attributed to the poet Byron, to mark a logical opposition, to introduce an unexpected thought or an irony. Knell's dash seems (to me) quite Byronic.
