Default the exact meaning of 'what do you think of sth'

    Hello, teachers.

If a writing test examiner ask, "Nowadays more and more people eat unhealthy diets and do not have enough exercises. What do you think of this?" what does him want to know? Is it the reason of that phenomenon or your judgement about that statement (true or false, good or bad, ...) or some other things?

In other words, what is the exact meaning of "what do you think of sth"?

    Thank you in advance.

    Enydia

He is asking you to express, in writing, your opinions about the statement in red.

    Thank you very much, bhaisahab.

    Can I
analyse the cause of that phenomenon?
question the truth of the statement?
predict the consequence of that phenomenon?

In fact, I'm wondering whether I have to regared that statement as a fact in my writing.

I think that you should discuss all three. Did the teacher not give you any indications as to what was required?

    Hi, Bhaisahab.

    Thank you for your reply.

The whole task description is as follow:
Nowadays more and more people eat unhealthy diets and do not have enough exercise. What do you think of this? How to encourage people to cultivate healthier lifestyles?
I'm really confused by the first question.

You have to give your opinion as to wether or not that YOU think this statement is true. Many people would argue to the contrary, but not I.

How to encourage people to cultivate healthier lifestyles?
You shall have to do some in-depth research to answer this one though.

The first question means, quite simply, what are your personal opinions/thoughts about this statement.
