    TEFL or TESOL

Hello out there, I have just completed a TEFL course, and have been given the option to have a certificate in TEFL or TESOL - same meaning as I understand it. Can anyone tell me if one is more widely known than the other, or if one carries more significance over the other? Seems silly, but.... Thanks in advance.

They are both the same. It should state on your certificate that it is TEFL/TESOL.
