    Default pronunciation of monday,tuesday,wednesday,...

    Hi teachers,

here is my question. if u look up a dictionary,u'll see the pronunciation for Monday is [mondi],not [monday] that is familiar to my ears.

I've noticed that people pronunce it in both ways, older generations tend to pronunce it [mondi],and i rarely hear younger generations or people in TV sit-com pronunce it that way but [monday] .
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe they speak it too fast that I don't hear it well,so i need to ask u about it.
One day,I had a chance to ask an American senior about these pronunciation,he taught me that these should be pronunced as [xxxdi] except Thursday and Saturday;because they don't want Thursday sounds like "thirsty". does it has to do with regional or something?

    Thanks.

I always pronounce the day in the days of the week. Maybe it is a regional thing.

I believe the standard North American pronunciation, as RonBee has pointed out, is Mon[de:], which rhymes with hay, say, may, way, lay.

    Mon[di:] is a variation.
