Default Please review my two answers to the CELTA...

    Hi,
I'm about to apply for the CELTA course in Berlin and wanted to have my test reviewed before I send it in. I'm not looking for answers, I'd just like to know if I'm off track on my answers. Any points in the right directions would be great though (check out past perfect, review adjectives, etc.).

The rest of the questions seemed very easy but here are the two questions I was unsure about (perhaps i'm making it harder than it should be?):

Which of the items in each group is different from the others and in what way?

    a)rice
    b)egg
    c)milk
    d)cream

    a) because the other three can be used as both transitive and intransitive verbs. Also itís not used as an adjective. (I feel as if I'm overlooking the obvious on this one)

    a)He was interesting.
    b)He was smiling.
    c)He was smoking.
    d)He was reading.

    (A) is the odd one out because b c and d use was as a helping verb while A uses was as a linking verb with interesting as the adjective.

    Thanks to anyone who replys,
    J

Looks good to me.... Also, as a [colloquial] verb, I've never "riced" any one!
#2- step back and look at the sentences; I can't "see" if he's interesting upon visual inspection.
Just my take on it...Good Luck wwith the course.

Can 'egg' really be used as an intransitive verb? I honestly can't think of how. I did a quick check of a few online dictionaries and the AHD, Merriam Webster and Encarta all have it as transitive only, in which case it would be the same as rice as a verb. Am I missing something obvious?

BTW, I agree with Bhaisahab that they'll probably be looking at them as nouns..
