    Dear teachers,
    This small cottage is unique example of the local architecture.
    Please, can somebody explain the omission of an indefinite article?
    Why not- A unique example of the local....I found this sentence in a textbook, but I do not understand....

    An English town might have a unique example of Portuguese architecture, referring to one building in the town ( and note the inclusion of the indefinite article).

    Grammatically, your sentence should be : This small cottage is a unique example of the local architecture.

    However, it doesn't make sense!

    Anyone see what's wrong with this sentence?

    thank you very much for your help...
    I thought it was not grammatically correct, but I really found it in a textbook..
    ...I think to make some sense the sentence should be-
    This small cottage is an example of the unique local architecture. Or not?
