Default did not dare/dared not sleep/go to sleep

I was admitted to hospital as I was very ill. I did not dare to sleep/go to sleep because I was afraid that I might not wake up the next day.

Is 'did not dare' correct or should it be 'dared not'? Is it 'go to sleep' or 'sleep'? Are there any errors in the sentence?

    Many thanks.

    Dear Elaine:

'Did not dare' and 'dared not' mean the same thing. In your example. 'sleep' and 'go to sleep' mean the same thing. 'Go to sleep' generally describes the act of falling asleep, while 'sleep' describes the act of sleeping, so 'go to sleep' would be slightly more accurate in your sentence.
