An old saying goes as “Work while you work and play while you play and that is the way to be happy and great”. On the other hand some others would like to believe that any leisure activities that the kids indulge in should be educational. However I strongly feel that ‘play and work’ should never be mixed.
Childhood is the time when our bodies and brains are mostly receptive and observant. A we know, the way a child is raised makes a huge impact on the way a person will grow up to be. Some might think that this may be the actual reasons why kids leisure activities should be strictly educational, simply to allow maximum reception of knowledge from the kids. To me, education is only one side of a child's growth.
For example in sports, something that many consider a waste of time; however, sports are very important for kids to grow up. It keeps them fit and strong. A healthy brain in a healthy body is something that all children need to have. Children involving in sport activities help their bodies to grow faster than from their childhood itself and keep them to stay away from diseases. Sport activities also help kids learn crucial aspects of life such as Team work. It can help them grow up to be more tolerant towards the weak.
Children's activities should also include arts. This helps them to learn their own cultures and even religions. By taking part in art activities children also get a much needed break from stereo types. It allows them to bring out their own original ideas and allows them to show their creation which they are otherwise not be able to show when at school.
Children should also benefit from leisure activities like socializing with other kids. It allows them to learn other cultures and religions. It adds to their overall personality and overall growth of a person.
All in all leisure activities of kids need to be educational and the kids would learn a lot if they are educated.
