    pegging price, slashing the content

ABC company hikes its cat food prices by 10 percent. Another brand, DEF, is slashing the contents of its pet food by 13 percent, but pegging prices.

    ************************************************** *****

    1) What does it mean of "pegging price"?
    2) Does "slashing the content" mean reducing the quatity of the content per unit?

    Thanks / ju

Re: pegging price, slashing the content

To peg means to fix, as in: the Chinese currency is pegged to the dollar (a peg is a wooden dowel inserted into a hole so that it won't move).

To slash the content means to decrease the quantity (in this context) which is a hidden price increase, per unit.

Pegged means fixed, in both cases, or, not allowed to move.
