Googling 'answering a question with a question' produces 900 pages, of which the first 200 at least give no hint of another term for the practice. One page used the word 'reversing', but cross-checking revealed no such meaning for that term.

    Sorry.

I would use "counter question". But I'm not sure, if this is used in this case.

It could be one of two things or a combination of both:

    1) hypophora
    2) rhetorical question

My nephew should have an answer for that one.

mother: Why are you back so late? Do you know what time it is?!
son: Didn't I tell you I will be late?
mother: Do you know what your father's gonna say when he finds out?
son: Are you really going to tell him, mom?
mom: What makes you think I shouldn't?
son: You don't want me to get in trouble with dad, do you?
mom: It's about time you grew up and started acting your age, not your shoe size, don't you think?
son: I promise it won't happen again, but you won't say a boo to dad, right??

sounds too familiar...I think I need to call that kid to find an answer for your question.

P.S. Hopefully, not another question from him...
