Arrow Mercury, as a name for old periodicals

In the name of the Merciful Allah,
Hi, when you hear about newspapers or magazines such as: The American Mercury, or The American Weekly Mercury, what do you think of the intended meaning of the name they had Mercury? Do the founders meant the Roman messenger god, or the planet nearest sun?

    Hello EA,

It is your first option: a reference to the divinity.

    Best wishes,

Mercury is the mythological god of trade and speedy messaging.

Great name to denote the concept of fast news.
