Default If a sentence had a past tense

If a sentence had a past tense, does it mean the rest of the sentence requires a past tense also?

She asked if I like to eat.

    Not necessarily:
She asked if I wanted to eat. (If I was hungry atthat moment)
She asked if I like to eat. (If I generally am interested in food and enjoy eating)

Default Re: If a sentence had a past tense

'She said she must love me, so we are going to get married in the spring.' There is no necessary connection between verb tenses in a sentence.
