    come about / set off

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following excerpt from an English text?

I won’t bore you with the details of how this came about. Suffice it to say that coincidence set off the chain of events that followed.

come about = come pass, occur, happen, fall out

set off = cause to occur

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V.
