Default Re: "The (voiced, and unvoiced) TH sound."

The sound /θ/ is (unvoiced) as in the word 'thin', whereas the sound//is (voiced)as in the word 'then'. The meaning of 'voiced' or 'unvoiced' sound is dependent on whether there is a vibration in your vocal cords (voiced) or not (unvoiced).

The basic "th" sound is made by extending the tongue slightly beyond the front teeth (so that the end-most tip protrudes slightly) and the lower teeth come up and grip it lightly on the underside. Now, with tongue in place, exhale slightly as you pronounce "this" or "the" or "three."

Basically, try this: do a strong /f/, and a strong /v/. Hold them both for more than 5 seconds, strongly. Feel your lower lip vibrating against your top front teeth. Good. Now, try to make the same sound, pretty much exactly, using the tongue against the top front teeth instead of the lips. There, you've got it.
