The purpose of a cover letter is to introduce yourself to a potential employer by highlighting those work experiences from your resume that you think are especially important in regard to the position you are seeking. As the weight of your entire work experience is reflected in your resume, you should keep the cover letter brief -- four to five brief paragraphs should be sufficient. A closing paragraph, which thanks the reader for the consideration of being reviewed for the position, should also request an interview.
